Get in the habit
Make “water first” your family’s habit.  Serve it with snacks and meals; make it the drink of choice at restaurants.  When you let your kids have a soft drink at restaurant, you might start with a glass of water first.  That way they may not drink as much of the soda.

Make it easy
If you have a refrigerator with a water dispenser in the door, use it!

If you don’t have a refrigerator water dispenser, keep a pitcher of water at the front of the refrigerator.

Carry a refillable water bottle with you. Put some ice cubes in it to keep it chilled.

Put water on the table at all meals.

Drink a tall cold glass of water when you watch TV or work on the computer.

Encourage your kids to drink water while doing homework. Our brains work better when we’re well-hydrated.

Make it tasty
If you don’t like the taste of tap water, try these ideas:
Many like the taste of cold water better. Keep pitchers or refillable water bottles in the refrigerator.

    * Drink it with ice.
    * Ad lemon, lime or orange slices. 
    * Add some sprigs of fresh mint.
    * Get a faucet filter.
    * Get a pitcher filter.
    * Get in the habit of drinking water. Some people find if they drink water regularly they start to like the taste.

Water out and about
Fill a water bottle and take it with you every time you leave the house.
Make a “water only” rule in the car. If it spills it’s much less sticky than soda, juice drinks or sports drinks.

Drink water at restaurants. It saves money and calories. Not ordering expensive drinks can make a big difference in the bottom line of your check.  If you do have soft drinks at restaurants, don’t get refills.  You could end up with about 1000 calories of soda if you keep filling up.
If you get popcorn at a movie, bring a bottle water to quench your thirst from the salt.

Water outside
When your kids are playing outside, make sure they have plenty of water.
Put a jug of water on an outside table with cups.

Fill a cooler with a push button spigot with icy water so kids can grab a drink without stopping to come inside.
Get a water bottle cage for bike. They’re inexpensive and make you look like a pro! 

Get a water bottle clip to put on a belt loop to stay refreshed while walking or biking.
